Passion: A Food for thought blog post (formerly called a Timeless Truths blog post)

girl with medalDo you have a secret passion? Something no one else knows about? Perhaps you enjoy photography and take pictures wherever you go … with the secret dream of having your pictures published in a world famous magazine.  Or maybe you like to paint and it’s no secret how talented you really are … but you don’t want to be famous … you just want your artwork to touch someone else’s heart when they see it … even if all they do is smile when they have been going through a season of depression.

In reality, your passion is something that you enjoy doing … really, more than that … something that you love to do … even if you never get paid … even if you never gain recognition for it … even if no one else on the planet could comprehend why you do it or why it is so important to you. Your passion … like you … is unique.

When Jesus was alive on earth, He had passion.  John 4:31-34 (NLT) relates the story, “… the disciples were urging Jesus, “Rabbi, eat something.” But Jesus replied, “I have a kind of food you know nothing about.” “Did someone bring him food while we were gone?” the disciples asked each other.  Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.”

Nourishment … something that nourishes; something that fills; something that satisfies … that is what pursuing our God-given passion provides us with.  It will look different for every individual … but whatever you are passionate about … whatever you believe in deep down in your heart as important … whatever you know would make a positive impact on those around you … and would also bring honor and glory to God … that kind of passion is something you should pursue.  That kind of passion comes from your Creator. That kind of passion is invaluable … and important.

Regardless of what others or the world may say, when you follow the will of God in your own life … and when you finish whatever work He directs you to do … you will find the same type of nourishment for your soul that Jesus found. You will know you are fulfilling God’s purpose for you while living on this earth. You can then look forward to eternity where you will hear the one positive response that really matters when all is said and done.

Having a personal relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior, having been led by the Holy Spirit in following God’s will for your life … once those two important priorities have been met … you will be able to look forward to the day when you stand before God … for you will be confident of His positive response to you, the response that says, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23 (NLT)
